We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Hoof Funeral Home
Bernice Mary (Weir) Richert, passed away in her sleep at the Wisconsin Dells Health Center Friday, June 17, 2022 at age 93.
One of six children born to Irvin and Clara (Foss) Weir, Bernice grew up on the family farm in rural Lyndon Station and spent her life in the Lyndon and Reedsburg part of Sauk County. She married Raymond L. Richert on May 3, 1947 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, and loved to tell the story of how Ray fainted in church that day. Over the years, Bernice and Ray welcomed and raised a family of five children.
Bernice worked hard at raising her family and grandchildren, along with many years at Hankscraft Motel work in Wisconsin Dells, and Land’s End. She worked at Land’s End into her 80’s and only retired when her job was outsourced which upset her greatly.
A lover of sweets, flowers, cats, gardening, chocolate, sparkly jewelry, and clipper of “new” recipes, she often spoke of how she missed cooking for a large family. All the grandchildren and great grandchildren knew where the cookie drawer was in her kitchen. When her family was young, summers were spent following Ray around the state for his work. She also enjoyed traveling by train with a memorable trip with two of her sisters to Colorado. Bernice enjoyed watching the Wheel of Fortune, old TV westerns and spending time on her computer.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Linda; and siblings Oliver, Eleanor, Bill and Tom. Survivors include her sister Dorothy Decot; sister-in-law Evelyn Richert; son Richard “Rich” Richert and friend Nancy Mueller; daughters Angela “Angie” Wright; twins Patricia ``Pat” Peterson and Pamela “Pam” Simpson; sons-in-law Al Wright; Dan Peterson; Alan Simpson, David Huntley; and her favorite cat “; Kitty”; 8 grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren; other nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Bernice was a warm, loving, intelligent, generous to a fault, compassionate woman, sister, wife, mother and grandmother much loved and respected. She will be deeply missed.
A service of remembrance will be held Monday, June 27, 2022 at 11 AM at Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial at the funeral home.
