Evelyn H. Thompson, age 95, of Reedsburg, died at 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at Our House Memory Care Assisted Living facility in Reedsburg. Evelyn was born on April 7, 1924 in Helvetia Township, Waupaca County, Wisconsin, the first of six children to Carl and Lydia (Austreng) Bestul.
On June 12, 1943, she married Ralph W. Thompson of Amherst, Wisconsin. They lived in Amherst until 1958 when they moved to Reedsburg. Evelyn was very active in St. John Lutheran Church in Reedsburg for many years. She also, along with her husband Ralph, worked for Reedsburg Egg Company for several years until 1966. She then continued as a homemaker as well as a receptionist and clerical specialist for their real estate office along with their annual income tax business.
Survivors include her children: Diane Thieding, of Loganville; Douglas Thompson, of Madison; and Dale (Marcie) Thompson, of Reedsburg; five grandchildren: Jeffrey (Julie) Thieding, of Loganville; Jodi (Mike) Whalen, of Loganville; Eric Thompson, of Madison; David (Sarah) Riggert-Thompson, of New Zealand and Danny M. (Misty) Thompson Jr., of Reedsburg; brother: Marvin Bestul, of Rushford, MN; brother: Allan (Rita) Bestul, of Winona, MN; sister: Shirley Wagner, of Wisconsin Rapids; sister-in-law: Shirley Bestul; several great and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50+ years, Ralph, in January of 2004; her brothers: Ernest Bestul and Roger Bestul; a son-in-law: James Thieding in 2003; her son: Danny M. Thompson Sr. on April 2, 2017; an infant grandson: Christopher Robert Thompson; and daughters-in-law: Sally M. (Haefer) Thompson in March of 2019 and Jane E. Riggert in November of 2019.
Evelyn was a loving example for all who knew her and a treasured mother to her children.
