Golie (Estedabadi) Greenwood

June 30, 1952 ~ March 28, 2022 (age 69)

Golie Greenwood of Reedsburg Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on March 28, 2022 at the age 69.

Golie was born in the Kurdistan area of Iran on June 30, 1952.  She was brought to Faraman Mission Orphanage in Iran in 1953 as a small baby and was raised by United States (USA) Christian missionaries outside of Kermanshah. In 1958 the missionaries took the school age children to Kermanshah for schooling. Golie applied herself to her studies and after completing elementary education moved with the other students and missionary parents to Tehran to complete High School.  Her favorite subject was Math. She loved to help people and wanted to study to be a nurse so she went to a well known Nursing School at a Mission Hospital in Pakistan. After completing her training in 1976 she returned to Tehran where she accepted a nursing job in a major hospital in Tehran.
At that time she met Joe Greenwood who was in Iran for a farming project.  They were married in Iran on August 11, 1977. Over the years Joseph’s work took him to Saudi Arabia, Billings, Montana, Fairbanks, Alaska and finally to Reedsburg, Wisconsin. While they were in Montana Golie studied to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.). She worked and retired as a LPN at Denali Center and she also worked at Pioneer Nursing Home. Both facilities are in Fairbanks. Golie and Joseph celebrated 44 years of marriage together.
Golie loved God and had a strong faith and she loved her family. In her early years she loved to knit, crochet, and sew. She sewed all her daughter’s clothes until her daughter was in kindergarten. In her later years she loved gardening. She always loved getting together with loved ones and being with her grand-daughter Brianna. She could run as fast and even faster then Brianna at times. She loved taking walks in the country on the roads near her farm. Anyone who knew her loved her soulful laugh, kind-hearted nurturing character, selflessness and they all said she was a very hard working, giving person. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
Golie is survived by her beloved children, Laurie Ann (Scott) Schuenke and Dean Greenwood as well as her grand-daughter Brianna. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Joseph Dean Greenwood, Dean and Lorraine Greenwood.
